wanted to share the lessons i’ve learned through previous ministry/missions trip mistakes so you don’t have to offend the churches in Asia as me and my teams have hehe. Most churches here will give you some grace if it’s your first time ministering here especially if you don’t speak Chinese fluently or if you’re Caucasian.
Here is the dress code if you want to be ministering in Asian churches in Asia:
1. bottoms: wear pants. jeans are acceptable. no shorts or skirts that reveal the legs, even if they’re “conservative” and cover your knees
2. tops: no spaghetti straps, wife beaters. tops should cover the shoulders and not be too low of course
3. shoes: covers your toes. yes i too wish i can wear flip flops, even “fancy” flip flops are not acceptable. ballet flats are acceptable just as long they cover your toes.
considering the weather here in Asia, especially in the summer, it’s a sacrifice but a very worth while sacrifice! : )
Heyars!
It was great to see you again today! Seriously, we should go have tea with the Queen sometime!
But #1-3 are super true in HK churches… I guess you kinda get used to it. And definitely a very worth while sacrifice!
Hope to see you again sometime!
Love,
M.
And I was sooooo looking forward to wearing skirts whenever I visit HK
sorry to bust your bubbles
